About Kenduli Mela

Where Music is Worship

Kenduli Mela is a vibrant music festival and fair held in the village of Kenduli, the birthplace of the famous Sanskrit poet Jayadeva, who composed the 'Gita Govinda'. The fair is timed to coincide with Makar Sankranti and is a major congregation for the Bauls, the mystical wandering minstrels of Bengal.

Hundreds of Bauls set up their 'akharas' (temporary camps) and perform music and dance for three days. The air is filled with the sound of their ektaras and the power of their soulful voices, as they sing of love, humanity, and the divine. It is an raw, authentic, and deeply spiritual experience.
